ATEC Water Systems, a Cadiz company, will support a new regional partnership to address legacy perchlorate in the Rialto–Colton Groundwater Basin as San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District advances its Cactus Basins Recharge Program. Under the agreement, Cadiz will provide specialized filtration systems to Fontana Water Company to mitigate potential contaminant migration associated with future recharge operations.
What’s happening & why it matters
San Bernardino Valley MWD, Fontana Water Company, and Cadiz signed an agreement on September 5, 2025, to integrate perchlorate treatment with basin recharge—improving water quality and supporting long-term regional supply reliability. The treatment systems will be deployed at FWC’s facilities and delivered through ATEC.
ATEC’s role in the project
- Provide treatment systems focused on perchlorate removal at FWC facilities.
- Engineer site-specific solutions aligned with basin recharge operations and local permitting needs.
- Support regional goals of water banking, drought resilience, and sustainable groundwater management.
About the regional program
The Cactus Basins Recharge Program plans to spread imported SWP water for groundwater recharge, then withdraw via existing wells to augment supplies. Treatment is being integrated to address concerns about potential contaminant migration as recharge proceeds.
